Other than a dinner date: 7 fun things couples can do for Valentine's

Romantic candlelit dinner dates are great, that’s for sure.

But with Valentine’s Day falling on a payday Friday, you can be sure the entire Metro Manila will have the same dinner date plans as you — not so great, we know.

So allow us to share a few ideas you and your SO can do on Valentine’s Day, other than the usual.

1. Get a couple’s massage

If you've both been busy the whole week, treat yourself and your significant other to a romantic spa treatment at Discovery Primea's Terazi Spa.

It has two types of Valentine’s Day packages, available the entire more of February: the 60-minute Signature Couples massage (P6,500 nett) and the 90-minute Signature Couples massage (P8,500 nett).

Both packages end with the delightful combination of a chilled bottle of Prosecco and fresh strawberries, and yet another special Valentine surprise.

Book a massage by calling Terazi Spa at +63 2 7955 8888 or sending them a message via social media.

2. Conquer an obstacle course together!

Get your and your partner's hearts racing on Valentine's Day not with kilig but with a physical activity. We mean: Check out this fun obstacle course at Obstacle Central in Quezon City.

Obstacle Central has a wide variety of classes with a beginners class for starters. What’s a beginners class, you may ask? It’s a simple activity where you have to take on obstacles laid out on the race floor.

OCR for beginners classes start at 5pm on weekdays and 1pm on weekends. They offer P600 for a day pass wherein you can join different classes within the day. To book a class you can message them on their Facebook page.

3. Go to an outdoor film screening

While Art Fair Philippines 2020 proper isn't until next week, one of this year's new sections, ArtFairPH/Film, opens on Valentine's Day weekend with outdoor screenings of selected art films.

But it's not just any ol' outdoor film screenings. Mats, throw pillows and throw blankets will be laid down on the floor, inviting guests to lie down and get comfy as movies will be projected onto the curved ceiling of Tower One of the former Philippine Stock Exchange at Ayala Triangle from February 14 to 15.

So it's a drive-through movie but a lot more comfortable.

The best thing about it? It's free!

4. Get arty

Bring out the Van Gogh in you and try your hand at painting. At Sip & Gogh, you don't have to be a pro to do this.

The place will provide everything — canvas, paints, brushes, palette, easel and apron. Choose what painting you want to do yourself, and instructors will be there to guide you.

The best, of course, is the wine and cheese on the side.

Check out which branch is the nearest you, register and schedule a session with your significant other. The branches are offering different kinds of discounts for Valentine's Day which you can check out on their Facebook page.

5. Go on different kind of date all together!

The dungeons over at Fort Santiago in Intramuros have reopened with much aplomb. While it might feel a little strange bringing a date to place where political prisoners were once kept, the nippy February weather, its dark surroundings, and all the history and culture to be had sound like a more worthwhile experience than yet another dinner.

The dungeons are open until 10 p.m., and its entrance fees already come with the Fort Santiago price tag. (P75 for adults, P50 for students/seniors/PWD).

6. Become tourists for a day and enjoy the city in a whole new way

Speaking of Intramuros, why not get on a bamboo bike and cycle around the Walled City? Bambike has guided tours that will allow you to explore the old Walled City in a "safe, fun and informative way." Their tours are done in small groups of 5 pax to maximum of 15 pax.

Bambike has a variety of tours that all looks good, but for Valentine’s Day, our eyes are set on the two-hour Sunset Tour (P1799). Book here

7. Conquer nature together!

There is much to be said about conquering mother nature together, especially when it’s an experience that is new to the both of you —like free diving!

Join a freediving workshop for beginners and nonswimmers in Makati with Azul Freediving.

There are classes on Saturdays and Sundays for the whole month of February, with weekday schedules available upon request, and then take yourselves out for the most adventurous date yet!
