College student offers portraits to encourage donations for healthcare workers


A college student is contributing to the fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) through her art.

In Vonne Aquino's report for " 24 Oras," animation student Isabela Aldana said she wants to help raise funds to buy personal protective equipment for healthcare workers.

Through her "Portrait for a Cause" project, she will create a digital portrait for those who will chip in a minimum of P100 to the FightCOVID19 Donations.

"I wanted to help in any way I can so I figured 'yung pwede kong gawin is make portraits to encourage people to donate," the artist said. "So bale when they donate I will make them portraits in exchange for that."

Hospitals are facing a shortage of PPE sets as the world battles COVID-19. Many healthcare workers have improvised using plastic bags as alternative protective gear.

Aldana said that she was able to raise P41,000 in monetary value and P10,000 worth of relief goods through her project.

Meanwhile, Tom Rodriguez is also using his artistic skills to raise funds for the benefit of daily wage earners.

The Kapuso star is a volunteer artist of "Guhit Pantawid: Portraits for a Cause" project and is also drawing portraits for donors. --Kaela Malig/MGP, GMA News
