PlayStation offers free games to encourage people to 'play at home'

To encourage more people to stay at home, PlayStation has made a couple of games available for free for a limited time.

You can now download "Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection" and "Journey" for free until May 5.

This is part of PlayStation's "Play At Home" initiative, launched amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

"People all over the world are doing the right thing by staying home to help contain the spread of COVID–19. We are deeply grateful to everyone practicing physical distancing and take our responsibility as a home entertainment platform seriously, so we are asking our community to continue supporting the safe choice and the need to Play At Home," it said on its website.

Aside from the free games, PlayStation is also putting together a fund to help smaller independent game studios who may be experiencing financial difficulties in these trying times.

"Independent developers are vital to the heart and soul of the gaming community and we understand the hardships and financial struggles that many smaller gaming studios are facing," it said.

It added that it has earmarked $10 million to support its independent development partners.

As of April 15, the number of COVID-19 cases globally has breached the two million mark.

At least 2,000,576 infections, including 126,871 deaths, have been recorded.
