Just like in the "Hunger Games" movies, every household has a "tribute" amid the threat of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The family member who is relatively young, doesn't have illnesses, and capable of carrying heavy bags of supplies is selected to be the grocery runner.

But as shown in Oscar Oida's report for "24 Oras," the "tribute" or "alay" is usually new to the job, which often ends up in hilarious faux pas in supermarkets.

"Kahit nilista na namin lahat ng mga kailangan naming pabili, minsan talaga kung alin pa 'yung hindi dapat bilhin, binibili pa rin nila," said Maui Orencia, who complained about her husband Jicko Magnaye.

Jicko, for his part, said that Maui would sometimes list items in haphazard order, such as mayonnaise suddenly followed by soap.

"Example 'yung sauce ng spaghetti, gusto niya pala Italian style. Ayaw niya ng Filipino style. Eh pareho kasing may style so hindi mo naman ako masisisi di ba," he added.

Meanwhile, Kapuso actor Kimpoy Feliciano also shared his confusion while buying sanitary napkins.

"So hindi ko mahanap kung asan dito 'yung may pakpak," he said in a video. "All-night with wings, paniki ka ghorl?"

Others misread what was on their lists, like buying cotton instead of canton. To avoid this, one wife included pictures from the internet and printed her grocery list.

Jicko advised other husbands and tributes like him to have patience with their wives and families.

"Try and try lang mape-perfect lang din natin 'yan," he said. "Ang pinakamagandang sikreto diyan para di ka masermon pagdala mo ng pasalubong 'yung misis mo." —MGP, GMA News
