Alyx Ayn Arumpac's drug war docu 'Aswang' to stream for free this weekend

Viewers at home can stream Alyx Arumpac's award-winning documentary "Aswang" for free this Saturday, July 11.

The film, which follows the first two years of Duterte's war against drugs, was supposed to have its Philippine premiere at the Daang Dokyu documentary film festival but the event was postponed in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A link to the full documentary will be made available for one day on the official "Aswang" website and Facebook page on July 11, 6 p.m.

"From the extrajudicial killings, the Anti-Terror Law, the relentless attacks on press freedom and our freedom of speech, to the aggressive militarized response during this pandemic, we have a lot going on," the team said in an email.

"With cinema as our language, we hope to open hearts and minds to a conversation," they added.

"Aswang" bagged the international critics' FIPRESCI Award during the International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam in 2019.

The in-depth documentary on the drug war features stories of victims from marginalized communities, exposing how their lives have changed during the current administration's campaign against illegal drugs.
