DepEd releases online learning tools ahead of class opening

The Department of Education (DepEd) has released an online learning tool to help teachers and parents educate students at home amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Learning Management System (LMS) provides a platform for virtual classes where teachers can conduct their lessons and keep track of their students' performance in their assigned tasks.

Aside from the LMS, the agency also has the DepEd Commons, a repository of Open Educational Resources (OERs), Electronic Self-Learning Modules (e-SLMs), and other multimedia lectures episodes.

"Right now we have about 8 million subscribers wherein lessons, homework, quizzes are all in the DepEd commons and are even accessible to the parents," said DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones.

"So we have instances of parents who are abroad and are monitoring their children can also go through the system and check how their children are performing," she added.

The DepEd Commons and DepEd LMS are accessible in various platforms such as smartphones, desktop computers, laptops, and tablets.

Teachers, learners, and parents must simply register their details to access the materials. —MGP, GMA News
