Here’s how you can send your name to Mars through NASA

You may not be able to fly to Mars anytime soon, but your name surely can!

The National Aeronautics Space Administration (NASA) is again offering the public the chance to have their names flown all the way to the red planet.

All interested applicants have to do is input their details on its site.

NASA will review the entries and once approved, the names will be etched onto a microchip and placed aboard the future mission spacecraft to Mars which is expected to fly mid-2020s.

NASA’s latest Mars-bound Perseverance rover is set to launch today, bringing over 10.9 million names to the neighboring planet from the last name submission campaign.

Since the opportunity to send names to Mars this year is already closed, NASA opened another chance for the public to submit their names for the next expedition.

“However, since the Mars 2020 opportunity closed, many people have since expressed interest in sending their name to Mars. For those who missed the chance to fly their names on Perseverance, we want to give them the chance to sign up to fly their names on a future mission to Mars,” it said.

Although the spacecraft hasn’t been identified just yet, NASA is already taking names that will eventually be part of the next mission.

As of writing, over 988,649 names have been submitted, with 225,258 names from the Philippines. The Philippines has the highest number of submissions, followed by the United States, India, and Brazil. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
