Mutya ng Pilipinas cancels 2020 pageant, to focus on humanitarian efforts amid pandemic

Mutya ng Pilipinas has cancelled its 2020 calendar of activities amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In a Facebook announcement on Thursday, Mutya ng Pilipinas, Inc. said they made the decision "to ensure the health and safety of our community."

The organization, however, said that they will "fulfill existing obligations" and send a beauty queen to represent the country if international titles hold virtual pageants.

"Our organization strongly adheres to its true purpose which is to serve as the platform from which the FIlipino beauty queen will shine and to model her as an authentic symbol of hope and strength to others," MNPI said.

Instead of holding a pageant, the organization will focus on humanitarian efforts to support frontliners and communities affected, especially the street children.

MNPI encouraged the public to support its "Beauty in Giving" campaign as they help out different charities.

"We salute the brave heroes and heroines in the fight against this pandemic," they said. "To you, we dedicate the year through our humble efforts in rebuilding the lives of those in need." —Kaela Malig/MGP, GMA News
