A player for the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) has become a delivery boy amid the community quarantine.

According to Mav Gonzales' report on "24 Oras," James Solero of the Pasay Voyagers now works for a popular food delivery service app while sports activities remain suspended due the pandemic.

"Sabi ko magtrabaho na lang muna ako, kahit anong pasukin kong trabaho para lang meron akong maibigay na pang sustento para sa magulang ko," he said.

Solero waits for orders in front of a fastfood chain in Makati City and delivers them using his bicycle. Working two shifts, he reaches around 20 orders per day.

"Kahit na sira-sira na po 'yung bisikleta ko napagtiyatiyagaan ko pa rin po," he said.

Customers sometimes recognize him as a basketball player and ask him how he had gotten into the job.

"Nagugulat sila kung paano daw po ako nakapasok sa ganito," he said. "Naisip-isip ko na lang, tulong ko na lang din para sa magulang ko saka sanay din naman po sa kahit anong trabaho."

Solero said he plans to continue as a delivery boy even when the MPBL returns to action. He will devote the mornings for basketball, and afternoons for deliveries.

"Kahit na wala tayong basketball try pa rin natin na magsumikap or gumawa ng paraan para magkaroon tayo ng pagkakakitaan natin sa buhay," he said. —MGP, GMA News
