Rodrigo Duterte, Angel Locsin top list of 'most admired' men and women in the Philippines—survey

President Rodrigo Duterte and actress Angel Locsin are the most admired man and woman in the Philippines in 2020, an online survey revealed.

According to the annual study conducted by YouGov, a British research and analytics firm, Duterte enjoyed an admiration score of 19.67% while Locsin had 15.03%.

The two public figures retained the top spots they held in 2019, with their scores rising from 19.39% and 11.14%, respectively.

Among the men, Senator Manny Pacquiao ranked second with a score of 10.65%, followed by Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, who had 7.96%.

Among the women, Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray (11.09%) and singer Sarah Geronimo (7.48%) claimed the second and third spots.

Actress Liza Soberano, who topped the survey in 2018, came in sixth, while Vice President Leni Robredo ranked 15th.

The rest of the lists include international public figures, such as Barack and Michelle Obama, Pope Francis, Queen Elizabeth II, Keanu Reeves, Taylor Swift, Michael Jordan, and Greta Thunberg.

In the worldwide ranking, the Obamas held the top spots, followed by Bill Gates and Xi Jinping among the men and Angelina Jolie and Queen Elizabeth II among the women.

United States President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump came in at 15th and 19th place, respectively.

The World's Most Admired 2020 had a sample size of over 45,000 people from 42 countries and territories.

YouGov gathered nominations by asking the question, "Thinking about people alive in the world today, which [man or woman] do you most admire?"

Based on the answers, the firm compiled a list of the top 20 men and women who should have been nominated in at least four countries. For the individual countries, five to 10 "popular local figures" were added to the lists.

The lists were then used to poll respondents, who answered the questions "Who do you truly admire?" and "Who do you most admire?"

Multiple choices are allowed in the first question, while the second required only one response. The numbers for both are then combined into an admiration score.

The results are weighted according to the country's population size and representation in the sample.

However, in countries with low internet penetration such as the Philippines, YouGov said the sample only represents the online population. —MGP, GMA News
