Couple in Tondo, Manila rescue over 80 abandoned dogs, cats

A couple in Tondo, Manila, have rescued over 15 dogs and 70 cats they found abandoned or abused on the streets.

According to Saleema Refran’s report on “24 Oras” Thursday, Luzviminda Anne Morales and her husband Ritchelle are independent rescuers behind the team Animal Rescue PH.

After rescuing the animals, the couple would take care of them until someone adopted them.

However, if the animals couldn’t find new parents, they were welcome to stay at the couple’s home where they were fed, bathed, and even given vitamins and vaccination.

“Pinapakain namin po sila, pinapaliguan, syempre inaalagaan ng maayos, binibigyan ng vitamins tapos ’yung iba pinapagamot naming ’yung may sakit,” said Luzviminda.

When the pandemic hit, however, the couple had to stop rescuing more animals.

“Pagkain medyo limitado kasi nga kapos din sa funds,” said Luzviminda.

Although many of their relatives had discouraged them, the pair continued their rescue work.

“’Yung unconditonal love ’yung binibigay nila na kapalit na di matutumbasan ng kahit sino,” said Luzviminda.

“Kahit mahirap lang kami lagi po sila na nandyan. ’Di po nila kami pinagpapalit.”

As of now, the couple earn a living from selling clothes and face masks online. The construction of their animal shelter is now ongoing in San Miguel, Bulacan. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
