The deeper representation of ghosts that haunt Henry and Dani on ‘The Haunting of Bly Manor’
If you have binged on “The Haunting of Bly Manor” in one sitting, you have probably already seen all the ghosts you’ve been waiting for this season.
In a roundtable interview with cast members, Henry Thomas (Henry Wingrave) and Victoria Pedretti (Dani Clayton) talked about the deeper representation of the ghosts that haunted their characters in the show.
For Henry, whose character was haunted by his grinning “alter ego” after his brother and sister-in-law whom he had an affair with died, he thought that the ghost represented “elements of shame, guilt, and regret.”
“And I think you know they’ve become supernatural in the sense that they’ve consumed him,” he added.
Meanwhile, Victoria who was haunted by her ex-fiance who passed away due to an accident after she wanted to call off their wedding said it’s much the same for her character Dani.
“I think it’s a lot more obvious that Henry is reflecting himself back to himself but I think the same thing is true for Dani,” she said.
“The ghost that she sees in the beginning of the show was a reflection of how she sees herself that she needs to constantly be remembering the way she let that man she loved down and that guilt and shame is following her,” she added.
Victoria and Henry, stars of “The Haunting of Hill House,” are returning to the horror genre with “The Haunting of Bly Manor.” Other returning stars from “Hill House” include Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Kate Siegel, and Tahirah Sharif.
“The Haunting of Bly Manor” is set in 1980s England. After an au pair’s tragic death, Henry Wingrave (Henry Thomas) hires a young American nanny (Victoria Pedretti) to look after his orphaned niece and nephew (Amelie Bea Smith, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) living at Bly Manor with their home chef Owen (Rahul Kohli), groundskeeper Jamie (Amelia Eve), and housekeeper, Mrs. Grose (T’Nia Miller).
