‘Respeto,’ an award-winning film about EJKs, is now available online
“Respeto,” an award-winning film about the Philippine hip-hop scene, extrajudicial killings (EJKs), and the so-called war on drugs, can now be streamed online.
The director of the Cinemalaya 2017 Best Film, Treb Monteras, has announced on social media that the movie is now available on Apple TV and other streaming platforms.
“Respeto” stars rapper Abra as Hendrix, a reluctant young drug runner who dreams of hip-hop greatness but finds himself spiraling down a rabbit-hole of crime and poverty.
As Apple TV’s definition reads, the film is also “a celebration of the underground Pinoy hip-hop and how we find the words to find ourselves.”
“Respeto” was the big winner at the 2017 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival.
Apart from being named Best Film, the movie also won Audience Choice, Best Sound (Corrine de San Jose), Best Editing (Lawrence Ang), Best Supporting Actor (Dido dela Paz) and the Netpac Jury Prize.
Apart from Apple TV, the film is currently also available on Amazon Prime, Vudu and Microsoft Store. – Margaret Claire Layug/RC, GMA News
