Taylor Swift named 'Artist of the Year' at 2020 AMAs, says she's MIA at the ceremony to record old music

Taylor Swift bagged three trophies at the American Music Awards on Monday, winning "Artist of the Year," "Favorite Pop Rock Female," and "Favorite Music Video."

In a short clip posted on AMA's Twitter, Taylor gave a short message to her fans.

"Thank you so much for this. This is a fan-voted award which means so much to me you guys have been beyond wonderful all the years of my career but especially this one when we've been so far apart we haven't been able to see each other in concert," she said.

"But I still feel really connected to you through the music and  your reaction to folklore and all the ways your imagination honored that album. I just love you so much and I'm really lucky because of you," she added.

Taylor said she's not at the awarding ceremony because she's "actually recording all of my old music in the studio where we originally recorded it. So it's been amazing and I can't wait for you to hear it."

As of this writing, Taylor is a trending topic on Twitter with over 260,000 tweets.

According to Variety, Swift broke her own record for the highest number of AMA wins, hitting a total of 32. The last record-holder before her was Michael Jackson, who had 24. —Jannielyn Bigtas/MGP, GMA News
