Filipino BL 'Gameboys Level-Up Edition' to launch worldwide on Netflix this December

The first Filipino BL (Boys Love) series, "Gameboys" is set to launch globally in Netflix in December, where it will be called "Gameboys Level-Up Edition."

The Netflix version will feature never-seen-before scenes, as well as refreshed and re-shot scenes, new correspondence and ‘vidgram’ stories from the characters throughout the series.

The story follows two live-stream gamers Cairo played by Elijah Canlas and Gavreel played by Kokoy de Santos who are rivals online but are matched in the game of love.

The two will find connection as they beat both digital and personal dilemmas.

"Gameboys Level-Up Edition" is written by Ash Malanum and directed by Ivan Andrew Payawal.

Its creator Jun Robles Lana said their goal was "to create a truly Filipino BL while also delivering universal themes and messages about two boys who find themselves connecting during the pandemic using the all-computer-screen format."

"The global health crisis basically forced us to rethink how we were producing stories, and institute a work-from-home shoot, involving actors recording themselves using their personal phones, supervised by a small crew attending the set virtually," he added.

Director Ivan, meanwhile, said Gameboys "shows a love that is universal and speaks one language regardless of gender, orientation and physical connection."

"It is the kind of love that encompasses virtual connection as we prove that love indeed has no boundaries," he added.

"Gameboys" first launched on YouTube during the lockdown period, where it quickly attracted more than 1.5M views after just two episodes in June.
