Makoto Shinkai reacts to 'Demon Slayer' surpassing 'Your Name' in Japan box office


"Demon Slayer: Mugen Train" is on track to be the highest grossing film in Japan.

According to Cinema Today Japan, it has already surpassed the phenomenal anime film "Your Name."

 

 

 

"Your Name" director Makoto Shinkai shared the news on Twitter.

"Wow, already?! I feel frustrated, but at the same time, I know it’s healthiness of the entertainment industry that records are constantly getting updated," he said.

"I’ll keep on going every day in order to make nice movies as well," he added.

According to the report, "Demon Slayer: Mugen Train" is now in third place, behind only "Spirited Away" (2001) and "Titanic" (1997).

The movie is a direct sequel to the popular anime "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba," which was based on the manga by Koyoharu Gotoge.

It follows the story of Tanjiro Kamado, a young boy who makes the journey of becoming a demon slayer after his family is slaughtered and his younger sister Nezuko is turned into a demon. —JCB, GMA News
