59-year-old man gives away toy collection to street children while biking around Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna
A 59-year-old man has been giving away his collection of toys to street children while biking around Metro Manila, Cavite, and Laguna.
According to Mariz Umali’s report on “24 Oras” Friday, Joey Belo has been collecting secondhand toys for over two years now. Realizing he had accumulated a lot of them, he decided to bring joy to other people by giving them away to children.
“Habang nagba-bike po ako nakikita ko ’yung mga kabataan eh,” Tatay Joey said. “’Yung nilalaro mga tsinelas nila, mga maliliit na kahoy, ’yun po nagkaroon ako ng idea. I-distribute ko na lang ’yung toys ko.”
In July, Tatay Joey was able to distribute his toys to children in Pasig City, along Roxas Boulevard, and in many other parts of Metro Manila while riding his bike.
Three months later, he reached Imus, Dasmarinas, Trece Martires, Sta. Rosa, Biñan, Cabuyao, and Calamba.
Tatay Joey shared that growing up, he also didn’t have toys because of financial reasons. Now that he had a lot, he wanted to give it to those who didn't own any, just like him in the past.
Ever since his child gave him a camera as a gift, Tatay Joey had also started vlogging about his adventures, which encouraged other people to help out.
Tatay Joey said that many people had begun donating their own toys, with some even coming from the United States.
Now, Tatay Joey plans to go all the way to Bicol Region to give away more toys.
Asked how long he’ll do this, Tatay Joey answered, “Hangga’t kaya ng binti ko.” – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
