Who’s playing who on Netflix’s star-studded adaptation of ‘The Prom’


Theater lovers, a star-studded movie adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical “The Prom” is arriving on Netflix on Dec. 11!

For those who aren’t familiar with the story, it centers on a small-town high school student named Emma who gets banned from attending the dance with her girlfriend.

They end up getting some unexpected help from four stage actors who set out to find Emma in what was, at first, a self-serving attempt to save their careers. 

The film, which tells a heartwarming tale of acceptance, is directed and produced by Ryan Murphy, who also created “Hollywood,” “The Politician” and “American Horror Story.”

Now it’s time you get to know some of the stellar cast members who are breathing life to the musical’s vibrant set of characters.

1. Meryl Streep as Dee Dee Allen

The three-time Academy Award winner is playing Dee Dee Allen, a New York City stage star who faces a crisis after her expensive new Broadway show turns out to be a major flop.

2. James Corden as Barry Glickman

The comedian and late night host is playing Barry Glickman, a stage actor who joins Dee Dee on her quest and takes Emma under his wing.

3. Jo Ellen Pellman as Emma 

Newcomer Jo Ellen Pellman takes on the role of high school student Emma who gets banned from attending the prom with her girlfriend, Alyssa.

4. Ariana DeBose as Alyssa

Ariana DeBose, who was part of the original cast of “Hamilton,” is playing Emma’s closeted girlfriend Alyssa, who also happens to be the daughter of the school’s PTA president.

5. Nicole Kidman as Angie

The Australian actress, who wowed everyone with her dazzling vocal chops in “Moulin Rouge,” is playing Angie, an aging theater actress who decides to join Dee Dee and Barry on their mission to help Emma.

6. Andrew Rannells as Trent

Trent Oliver is a less-than-successful Juilliard School graduate who also joins Dee Dee and Barry’s gang.

7. Keegan-Michael Key as the school principal

The comedian, best known for his hilarious skits with “Get Out” director Jordan Peele, is playing a school principal who supports Emma during her plight.

8. Kerry Washington as the PTA president

“Scandal” star Kerry Washington is playing the head of the PTA who bans Emma from attending the prom with her girlfriend. – RC, GMA News
