“I find the constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up to expectations very hard,” Jesy said.

“There comes a time in life when we need to reinvest in taking care of ourselves rather than focusing on making other people happy, and I feel like now is the time to begin that process,” she added.

Nevertheless, Jesy said being in Little Mix had been "the most incredible time" of her life but it was now time to "embark on a new chapter.”

The singer said a thank you to all Little Mix fans for supporting her on her journey, as well as her three bandmates for creating some of “the most amazing memories she’ll never forget.”

“I hope that you’ll continue to fulfill all of your dreams and keep on making music that people love,” she said.

Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock also released a joint statement on Little Mix’s social media, saying it was “what is right for her mental wellbeing” and that they are fully supportive of her decision.

“This is an incredibly sad time for all of us but we are fully supportive of Jesy,” Little Mix said in the caption of an Instagram post.

“We love her very much and agree that it is so important that she does what is right for her mental health and well-being,” they added.

Little Mix also assured their fans that Jade, Perrie and Leigh-Anne are not saying goodbye to the group just yet.

“We are still very much enjoying our Little Mix journey and the 3 of us are not ready for it to be over,” the group said.

“We know that Jesy leaving the group is going to be really upsetting news for our fans. We love you guys so much and are so grateful for your loyalty and continued support of all of us,” they added. “We’re looking forward to seeing so many of you on tour. Love always, Jade, Perrie and Leigh-Anne xxx.”

Little Mix was formed in 2011 during talent competition The X Factor. They debuted their first album, DNA, in 2012. They have six studio albums in total, with hit singles such as "Shout Out to My Ex," "Secret Love Song," and "Black Magic." —Margaret Claire Layug/JCB, GMA News
