Here’s a sneak peek of what it’s like to be on the ‘Bridgerton’ set

Not only has “Bridgerton” taken over Netflix overnight, but it also managed to be the streaming platform’s “biggest series ever,” streaming in 80 million households in its first month alone.

In a clip released on Friday, Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington, brought viewers to the set of the hit period romance series, from its hair and make-up corner to its elaborate locations.

“We filmed at a lot of locations. We filmed a lot in Bath so you get picked up at four in the morning. You get driven in the dark. You wake up, you’re at the mansion. You’re like, ‘oh! This is amazing!’” the actress said.

“You leave and then they’re like, ‘where were you?’ and you’re like, ‘I don't know.’”

Showing the lines of trailers where the actors would rest, Nicola also showed what the hair and make-up corner looked like.

According to the actress, the whole process of getting ready took about two hours.

“This era of regency, it was more about the hair than it was about the face. You’re gonna see some serious hairstyles in the show,” she said.

Aside from the extravagant hairstyles, Nicola also said that thousands of individual costumes had been made.

“So the style of the show is so over the top, so gorgeous. All of these costumes, they made thousands of individual pieces. There’s nothing that’s been rented on the show,” Nicola said. “Each one of these flowers that I have on this dress is handmade. It’s embellished.”

She also said “all the jewelry is handmade, put together, so every look is so thought of. It’s incredible.”

Nicola also took the viewers to the actual set of “Bridgerton,” where they shot one of the most iconic balls in the series.

“I think we see a lot of period dramas that are quite grey and dull but this is full of color and life. It’s not your granny’s period drama. It’s really something different, exciting, cool to be a part in,” she added.

“Bridgerton,” produced by Shondaland and Chris Van Dusen, follows Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family, as she enters into an uncanny deal with the rebellious Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page) to attract more suitors for herself and at the same time warn off marriage prospects for the duke who vowed never to marry.

Netflix announced last week that it will be renewing “Bridgerton” for a second season. – RC, GMA News
