How did Song Joong-ki imagine the future? Definitely not like the world in 'Space Sweepers'

We all have a vision about what the world would look like decades and even centuries from now, and Song Joong-ki is no different.

In an interview with reporters from the Philippines, the South Korean star shared what he imagined when thinking about a future in space.

"When I thought about the space or a future in space I would just think of something that's very shiny and polished," he said.

Song Joong-ki is set to play of a genius pilot named Tae-ho in South Korea's first sci-fi blockbuster, "Space Sweepers."

Set in 2092, the film follows a band of misfits as they struggle to survive in a universe where the Earth had become a wasteland.

The "Descendants of the Sun" actor said that the world painted in the film was "not similar" to what he imagined for the future.

"And because it was so different, that's in fact why I loved it so much," he said.

"When the director handed me the script for the first time and I read it, I felt like it was not much different from our lives today. It wasn't as polished or put together a lot of it was kind of falling apart," he added.

He also said that the conditions in "Space Sweepers" was "very much grounded with the current reality."

"And because of that factor I felt like it was really new, and it was one of the reasons I was drawn to it," he added.

Directed by Jo Sung-hee, "Space Sweepers" revolves around the crew members of spaceship Victory. After successfully snatching a crashed space shuttle in the latest debris chase, they find a 7-year-old girl inside. They realize that she’s the humanlike robot wanted by UTS Space Guards, and decide to demand ransom in exchange.

"Space Sweepers" is premiering on February 5 on Netflix. —JCB, GMA News
