Timothée Chalamet to play young Willy Wonka in upcoming film


A film about the life of Willy Wonka is reportedly in the works, and Timothée Chalamet is set to play the famous chocolatier.

According to Variety, reps for the “Call Me By Your Name” have confirmed he will leading the movie, complete with song and dance performances.

Willi Wonka is a character from the children’s book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” which follows a poor boy named Charlie who wins a golden ticket to tour a world-famous chocolate factory.

The eccentric candy maker was famously portrayed by Johnny Depp in “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” Tim Burton’s 2005 reboot of the classic 1971 film “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.”

Timothée Chalamet was nominated for an Oscar in 2018 for his role in Luca Guadagnino’s acclaimed coming-of-age film, “Call My By Your Name.”

The 25-year-old actor is set to star in Wes Anderson’s upcoming film “The French Dispatch,” as well as the highly-anticipated adaptation of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi novel  “Dune.” —Margaret Claire Layug/JCB, GMA News
