Han So Hee compares her roles as art student on ‘Nevertheless’ and mistress on ‘The World of the Married’
Many viewers may have hated Han So Hee on “The World of the Married,” but they’re in for a surprise as she plays a whole other character on “Nevertheless.”
During a media conference on Friday, So Hee compared her young and hopeful character on “Nevertheless” to her mistress role on the high-rating drama series “The World of the Married.”
“This [Yoo Na Bi] is a complete change and switch from my previous role ... but because I share so much with the character, I felt like this is closer to home,” she said.
“It’s not a transformation but I was able to channel myself, real life into it,” she added.
“But I hope that the audience will find my character relatable and I hope the story I tell through my character will be able to resonate with a lot of people ... I wanted to be as real and raw in bringing emotions to my character.”
So Hee also said that in a way, she resonated with Na Bi, who hoped that she would be the exception in how a romantic relationship realistically ended.
“In the past I would have acted like Na Bi. Now, I’ve been through that and done that. I kind of resonate but also I feel sorry for her,” she said.
According to “Nevertheless” producer Kim Go Ram, she immediately thought of So Hee and Song Kang for the leading roles of the series, which is based on a webtoon of the same name.
“I really thought of them the first moment I saw the webtoon so I really tried hard to cast them and they’re the hottest rising stars. They’re really busy and I asked them multiple times to work on this series and thankfully they loved the webtoon and they wanted to work on it,” Go Ram said.
The producer added that Na Bi, So Hee’s character, was charming and attractive and she didn’t need to direct the actress in a certain kind of way because Na Bi and So Hee felt similar to each other.
“They’re just like one character to me ... I kind of get confused who is Na Bi and who is So Hee,” she said.
Meanwhile, Go Ram said Song Kang and his character Park Jae Eon were both charming and attractive but in different ways.
“Kang seems like he’s innocent, seems like a nice guy so people were having a hard time matching the two together,” Go Ram said. However, the producer said she saw that the two had something similar that ran through them.
“When I first met Kang I said to him that I want your life in this character plus just one spoon of Jae Eon,” she added.
Both Song Kang and So Hee expressed their glee after finding out that the other would be their partner.
“I thought she looked very much like Na Bi so I was taken by surprise and So Hee has this ambiance,” Song Kang said. “She has a frank personality so I was very happy to hear that she was going to act with me.”
So Hee also said, “I thought he was similar to the webtoon character. There were a lot of fan picks on who should play the role and I truly felt he was a great candidate.”
She added: “Kang has a bubbly character. His charm is very different from Jae Eon because he’s very pure and that’s the kind of charm the actual Song Kang has and that sort of contrast makes him even more charming.”
“Nevertheless,” a romance drama series based on a webtoon of the same name, revolves around young art student Na Bi who doesn’t believe in love after the disastrous end of her first romance, but still wanted to date.
Meanwhile, Song Kang’s character Jae Eon enjoys flirting with many women but doesn’t believe in dating exclusively. The two have different wants, but nevertheless they find themselves drawn to each other.
The much awaited series is set to premiere on Netflix on June 20 with new episodes every Sunday. – RC, GMA News
