James Charles returns to YouTube after controversy

After months of radio silence, James Charles is back on YouTube.

The beauty vlogger posted a 30-minute video titled "An Open Conversation," where he could be seen doing his makeup while reflecting on the controversy that forced him into a three-month break.

"I definitely have not been taking this lightly," he said. "This has been the worst but most important wake-up call of my entire life for a lot of different reasons, and this is by far the most embarrassing thing that's ever happened to me."

In a now-deleted video titled "holding myself accountable" posted last April, Charles admitted that there had been two instances of him sending sexual messages to minors.

He claimed that the boys lied about his age, but that the conversations "should have never happened."

"There's no excuse for it, there's no ands or buts, and I take full responsibility for that," he said.

In the latest video, Charles said he took a "major, major step away" and did "a lot of work behind the scenes."

"This time was definitely different for me, but I feel as though this has been the most important months of my entire life in terms of personal growth and self-reflection," he said.

With over 25 million subscribers, James Charles is one of most prominent beauty YouTubers today.

In 2016, he became the first male ambassador for cosmetics brand CoverGirl after his makeup skills went viral online. —JCB, GMA News
