Erik Matti’s HBO Asia Original series ‘On The Job’ to compete at Venice Film Festival

Erik Matti’s HBO Asia Original series “On The Job” is set to compete at this year’s Venice Film Festival.

According to Warner Media, select episodes from the six-part thriller series will play in competition at the 78th Venice Film Festival as “On The Job: The Missing 8” this coming September.

The new HBO Asia Original series, which continues the story of Matti’s renowned 2013 film of the same name, is the only entry from Asia out of the 21 international flicks in competition at the festival.

“On The Job,” inspired by true events, revolves around crime syndicates that "temporarily release contracted prison inmates to carry out political assassinations for those in power," but the crime syndicates themselves are run by politicians.

Although the first two episodes of the series were already shown as a film during the Director’s Fortnight at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, the episodes on the new series include “never-before-seen” content.

“On The Job,” conceived and directed by Erik Matti, is filmed in the Philippines and features Joel Torre, John Arcilla, Piolo Pascual, Dennis Trillo, Gerald Anderson, Christopher de Leon, Lotlot de Leon and many more.

It is set to premiere this September on HBO Go. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
