These music-loving frontliners wrote a winning OPM song about hope despite uncertainty
Two music-loving frontliners have written a song filled with hope amid the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic.
These are pharmacist Ruth Lee Resuello and nurse Louie Kem Anthony Babaran, who came together to form the OPM duo "Letrang Norte."
The frontliners were named the winners of a Cultural Center of the Philippines’s (CPP) online band competition, “Kanto Canta," besting 14 other finalists from across the Philippines.
In an interview with GMA News' "Unang Balita," Ruth and Louie said their winning song "Tadhana" was about overcoming whatever obstacle comes their way despite uncertainty.
At the same time, the duo also found refuge in music especially amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Parang naging tahanan na namin ang music, so parang doon kami umuuwi," Louie said.
[It's like music has become our home that we keep coming back to]
"'Di ba sa tahanan, 'tahan na,' 'di ba? Parang, kahit super pagod ka, doon ka nakakapag-recharge kahit super toxic. Sabihin na nating nakakapagod din ang [gumagawa] ng music, hindi siya trabaho — passion talaga siya,” Ruth added.
[In the word 'tahanan,' (home) isn't it like [saying] 'don't cry anymore?' Even if you're super tired, you get to recharge. While it can also be tiring [to make] music, it's not a job -- it's a passion.]
The registered pharmacist and nurse also had a message to all their fellow frontliners who risk their lives for the country and their loved ones amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Doble ingat lang kasi, siyempre, meron tayong mga inuuwiang pamilya and syempre iniiwasan nating mahawaan natin sila,” Louie said.
[Let's take extra care, because we all have loved ones to come home to and we all want to protect them from any disease we might get]
“Saludo at salamat sa mga sakripisyo nila kasi hindi madali 'yung ginagawa nila,” Ruth added.
[I salute and thank (all frontliners) for their sacrifice because what they're doing is not easy.] — Margaret Claire Layug/LA, GMA News
