Christmas lanterns light up Ayala Avenue in Makati

The yearly Christmas festivities in Makati City have begun as lanterns light up Ayala Avenue.

As seen on JP Soriano’s “24 Oras” report Wednesday, the two-kilometer stretch of the busy road was decorated with Christmas parol that glowed at nighttime.

The report said these holiday ornaments were inspired by the Filipino tradition of lighting up the parol at home during Christmas season.

Designed by Zenas Pineda, the lanterns were made with capiz, a shell native to Southeast Asia, indigenous woven fabrics, and recycled materials. Its patterns followed those seen on stained windows in old churches.

“More than just ornaments, these lights symbolize brighter days to come,” said Ayala Corp. president Fernando Zobel de Ayala. “I am glad that we are able to continue this tradition and share this with all of you tonight.”
