'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' series officially gets green light from Disney

It's official — the series adaptation of "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" is headed to Disney Plus.

Author Rick Riordan made the announcement, saying the show is "really, truly, and for sure coming to your screens."

"The smart folks at Disney Plus have given us the green light," he said in a video posted on Disney Plus' Twitter.

The pilot will be directed by James Bobin, whom Riordan said "knows the Percy Jackson books well" as his "kids are fans."

"We're in great hands. Thanks to all of you for your excitement about this series, it's gonna be great," he said.

Riordan announced that the Disney Plus series is in the works as early as May 2020, assuring that he was personally involved in the production.

"Percy Jackson & the Olympians" is a series of books that brings to life Greek mythology as it tells the story of Percy, a once normal boy who discovers he is the son of Poseidon when he comes of age.

Two live action films have adapted the first two novels of the series: "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief" in 2010 and "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters" in 2013. —JCB, GMA News
