Fil-Am actress Ivory Aquino to play DC Film's first trans character in 'Batgirl'
Filipino-American actress Ivory Aquino is set to play the first openly trans character in a live-action DC film.
On Instagram, Aquino confirmed that she has been tapped to play Alysia Yeoh, the best friend of Barbara Gordon in "Batgirl."
"THANK YOU for the outpouring of love from dear friends & beloved fans of #Batgirl and her #bff #AlysiaYeoh," she said.
"Been busy at work with the rest of the Batgirl fam to bring you a story that’s both heartwarming & exciting including the return of legendary @michaelkeatondouglas as #Batman," she added. "Please know that my heart is expanding by the second from your words of love & my appreciation is ever-growing."
She also said that she was "beyond thrilled" to be working with the "Batgirl" team, and that the film was "truly a labor of love."
"Kudos to #DC #WarnerBrothers @hbomax for bringing onto the screens of the #DCuniverse a depiction of #trans folks that’s reflective of our existence in the world (or part of it at least!) and for recognizing how much fun we’re all gonna have with Alysia in the house," she said.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Batgirl" is set to premiere on HBO Max.
There is no release date yet, but it is currently in production in the U.K. —JCB, GMA News
