Former OFW meets the pair of brothers whose photo from the '90s inspired him
In a heartwarming turn of events, a former OFW has met the pair of brothers whose photo from the '90s kept him inspired during the most trying times of his life.
Rhoel Mendoza, a former OFW based in Saudi, kept a newspaper clipping of two boys wading in flood waters tacked on his office cork board, just above a family photo.
The bigger boy was carrying what looks like his younger brother and for Rhoel, "Parang sinasabi nung mas nakatatanda, 'kapit ka lang sa akin, hindi kita pababayaan kahit anong mangyari," he tells Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho.
The newspaper clipping from 1997, first reminded him of his little brother whom he's had a little misunderstanding.
And when he was victimized by a pyramiding scam upon coming home, Rhoel turned to the photograph for strength.
"That was one of the lowest periods of my life. Naghahalungkat ako ng old stuff, nakita ko [yung newspaper clipping]," he said.
Recently, he posted the old photo on social media in the hopes of finding the pair of brothers. Plenty netizens tagged KMJS, pushing the award-winning TV program to work its magic.
Researchers of KMJS first called the Philippine Daily Inquirer for leads; it was the newspaper that published the photo back in the '90s.
The research led them to Bataan, where they meet Tawe and Ron-Ron, the pair of brothers from the newspaper clipping, still together, still helping each other out, and still experiencing floods.
Rhoel came out to meet them for a tearful meeting, strangers that soon enough became friends.
