Mavy Legaspi explains why 'Top Gun: Maverick' is so important to him
Did you know that Mavy Legaspi was named after Tom Cruise's character in the original "Top Gun" movie?
On Instagram, mom Carmina Villaroel posted a photo with her son as they posed in front of the movie poster of "Top Gun: Maverick."
"Now you know where I got his name," Carmina said. "Maverick Peter," she added, recalling the character of Tom Cruise from the 1986 blockbuster hit, Lt. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell.
Mavy on his Instagram account meanwhile, provided more insights to how all this happened.
Posting the same photo as his mom, Mavy related how "TopGun was shown on TV after she gave birth to Cass and I."
"She believed that one day, I would be an independent gentleman," Mavy said.
"I was born as Maverick, I was born a Maverick. Stubborn as ever," the young actor continued.
Mavy is one-half the twins that Carmina gave birth to in the U.S.
Previously, Mavy and his twin sister Cassy explained that in the U.S., Cassy is considered older than Mavy because of her position at birth.
But during Carmina's c-section delivery, it was Mavy that was pulled out first and in the Philippines, who ever gets out first is considered the older twin.
