For the young cartoonists and comics creators who are eager to level up their illustration skills, join Manix Abrera’s Zoom workshop this Saturday, June 25, at 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. titled “Cartoons! Comics! Draw!” With limited Zoom slots, the workshop will also be broadcast live on the Metropolitan Museum of Manila’s Facebook page.

Manix is a visual artist and cartoonist who is the creator of the comics series Kikomachine Komix, Silent Comics, and News Hardcore. In a workshop meant for youngsters aged nine to 12, Manix will share techniques, tips, and tales from his colorful career. He will also teach how to create character designs for comics. Parents, guardians, and siblings are encouraged to join too.

Attendees will also learn about the famous characters created by National Artist for Visual Art Larry Alcala, whose work has influenced Manix and an entire generation of Filipino cartoonists and illustrators.

Organized by the Met as part of their M Online Studio Series—regular online offerings of workshops, training, and capacity-building sessions—this month’s focus will be on comics and cartoons which make up a large part of Philippine visual arts. – Nika Roque/RC, GMA News
