Intramuros free guided tours use 'Maria Clara at Ibarra' to engage young participants
"Maria Clara at Ibarra" aims to help young audiences become more interested in Philippine history by offering a fun way of learning about our past.
As the historical portal fantasy series took the Internet by storm in its first two weeks, it seems that this goal was achieved with massive success.
According to Vonne Aquino's report in "24 Oras Weekend," Sunday, even the free guided tours in Intramuros are now using "Maria Clara at Ibarra" to engage young participants.
"Ang daming mga kabataan na nagpupunta ngayon. Kapag po sumasama sa aming free guided tour nai-incorporate namin sa aming narrative 'yung show na 'Maria Clara at Ibarra,'" said accredited tour guide JB Quemado.
("So many young people come these days. When they join the free guided tour, we incorporate the show 'Maria Clara at Ibarra' in our narrative.")
Quemado said it is important to teach history to correct wrong claims spreading on social media and to strengthen one's love of country.
"Napakasaya makapagbahagi ng kasaysayan lalo na ngayon na napapanahon 'yung mga fake news, 'yung mga false information," said Vincent Hallig, another accredited tour guide.
("It gives such joy to share history especially now that fake news and false information are rampant.")
Organized by the Department of Tourism and Intramuros Administration, the tour includes the churches and universities inside the Walled City.
The Jose Rizal Shrine and the Fort Santiago dungeons are also among the interesting stops of the tour.
"Maria Clara at Ibarra" airs on GMA Telebabad weekdays after "24 Oras." You can also watch the Kapuso Stream on YouTube and the full episodes on the GMA Network mobile app.
