Jin of BTS rockets into Billboard charts with solo debut single 'The Astronaut'

Jin of BTS has made an impressive landing in Billboard charts following the release of his solo debut single "The Astronaut."

The South Korean singer entered the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time, reaching the no. 51 spot. The chart ranks the most popular songs in the United States.

According to a Soompi article, the song “has achieved the highest debut of any Korean solo song on the Hot 100 this decade — and the third-highest of all time, bested only by PSY’s 'Gentleman' (which debuted at no. 12 in 2013) and 'Hangover' (no. 26 in 2014).”

BTS members Jungkook and Suga ranked higher earlier this year, but as featuring artists — namely with the songs "Left and Right" by Charlie Puth, and "Girl of My Dreams" by Juice WRLD.

“The Astronaut” also topped the Billboard Digital Song Sales and World Digital Song Sales charts. It is Jin’s first number-one spot on both as a soloist. The song also made it to the Top 10 of Billboard’s Global 200 and Global Excluding United States charts, which track the most popular songs in nations across the globe.

Jin's previously released solo songs “Super Tuna,” “Abyss,” and “Tonight” are also within the Top 10 spots of World Digital Song Sales.

Additionally, Jin made it to the 10th spot on Billboard’s Artist 100 this week, his second overall week on the chart as a solo artist.

The Astronaut” is Jin’s first official solo single, a dreamy song about his love for the BTS ARMY. The singer worked with Coldplay and was able to perform the song with them in Argentina. Shortly after its release, the song debuted within the Top 20 of Spotify's global chart and rose to no. 1 of YouTube's trending music videos.
