Today is Friday the 13th — would you say today's been good or not really?

In Bam Alegre's Unang Balita report, we learned that the fear of the number 13 is called Triskaidekaphobia and those who suffer from it avoid the number 13 at all costs — room number 13 in hotels, row number 13 in airplanes, skip the 13th step in staircases, etc.

But where did that fear come from?

According to Alegre, the Sumerian civilization believed 12 is the perfect number "kaya naman 13, medyo hindi na swak," he said.

Meanwhile in Catholicism, they look to Jesus being betrayed by the 13th member of his barkada or the 13th guest of the Last Supper.

If you suffer from Triskaidekaphobia, perhaps you'd appreciate to know — and prepare — for the two Fridays the 13th happening this year, today and in October.

Perhaps it would do you good to recall what happened to you on May 13 — that was the only Friday the 13th we had last year. — LA, GMA Integrated News
