NCT Dream talks about “The Dream Show 2” tour, success, and future plans

It’s only been a day after the 2-night sold-out concert of NCT Dream at the Mall of Asia Arena and Czennies are still undeniably in a dreamful state!

Prior to their jam-packed “The Dream Show 2” Manila leg last April 29 and 30, the K-Pop boy group sat down with the members of the press to talk about their tour and future plans for the group together with their beloved fans.

Mark Lee, Jaemin, Jisung, Jeno, Renjun, and Haechan were warmly welcomed by the media as they introduced themselves one by one.

Here’s what went down the quick presscon with the men of the hour — NCT Dream:

You first held your Dream Show last Feb 2020 in a smaller venue. Now that you're doing it in a bigger venue, what are your thoughts and how do you feel about this?

Haechan: Well, we knew that a lot of Czennies were waiting for us. It was too bad that we were not able to go here for three years, but now we are looking forward to a bigger concert tonight and we're very excited to enjoy together with our fans here in Manila.

Jeno: We've been really looking forward to touring together, all seven of us. We were very excited. So we're a bit upset that Chenle has not been able to come with us. But perhaps that's another reason for us to come back to Manila in the future when we're all finally complete.

Fondest memories of your 2020 concert?

Jaemin: What I remember most from our first "Dream Show" is that the Czennies were so beautiful with their smiles. They gave us so much energy to perform our best during our first "Dream Show" here. But it's too bad because Mark wasn't present with us, and for "Dream Show 2," it's Chenle who wasn't able to go. So it's too bad that we haven't gotten to come here all together. We have to come back as a complete group next time.

Were you involved creatively in the production of the concert?

Mark: We all participated in the creative production for the concert. From Day 1, we were in all the meetings for all the clothes, wardrobe, we were in the meetings for selecting the songs and putting them in order of the track, of the setlist. So in that case, we were all very, very involved. And that puts us in the position to be involved again for future projects as well. And that's the only way for us to give life to the concert as well. It's pretty natural for that to happen. It's something that we're always excited to do.

What's the difference between "Dream Show" and "Dream Show 2" in terms of the music you present?

Haechan: Comparing the first and the second one, I guess we feel more "at home" and comfortable performing now. And it's on a bigger stage, it's a bigger production, so we can maximize and be more creative. It's a bigger production, there's more involvement compared to the first one.

Where do you draw inspiration for your songs?

Haechan: Every time we prepare for our albums, or choose a song, or even the lineup for our concerts, we always think about the people we're singing for, whom we are addressing our songs. No other than the Czennies of course. We can always count on our Czennies to be our inspiration and our audience. They come first. So most of the time, it will be the Czennies.

What other genre or style of music do you wanna try in your next album?

Jisung: Well until now most of our music has been more of the young or youthful sound. In the future, we'd like to try something with a stronger vibe.

If there's one NCT Dream song that you can sing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Haechan: "Irreplaceable."

Jeno: It's not a title song, but I'd say the "Graduation" song. Because of that song, you can hear our story. It explains who we are and gives an overwhelming feeling when you listen to that song.

Renjun: I'd say "Trigger the Fever," because it's a very happy song that hypes you up. That's how I wanna live my life, always happy and wanting to do good things. I'd choose that song, to send you positive vibes.

You're one of the hottest K-pop groups. To what do you attribute this success?

Mark: Success is a very tricky word. I think we can all be successful if you just put your mind to it, you know. We can all be currently successful in a way. But I feel like for NCT Dream, from the beginning of our debut, we always wanted to spread happiness, you know, to people that listen to our music and who see our stages. And in that sense, I feel like, we in a way did succeed and we are succeeding. And that this is our job to continue on that and to spread more happiness as much as we can in the future.

NCT Dream is a 7-piece South Korean boy group composed of Mark Lee, Jaemin, Jisung, Jeno, Renjun, Haechan and Chenle.

Unfortunately, Chenle wasn’t able to participate at the “Dream Show 2” due to “health conditions.”
