Meet 'From The Sea,' Morissette and husband Dave Lamar's musical project

Morissette Amon and her husband Dave Lamar, also known as the musical duo From The Sea, are true artists whose love for listening to and creating music knows no bounds.

Their unique creativity even shows in their group name, which started when they sat down one day and googled the name "Lamar."

The couple learned that in some languages, "la mar" is translated as "the sea" or "from the sea." The name stuck from then on.

"It's like whenever we release music together as a couple, that these songs are from The Lamars," Morissette and Dave told GMA News Online in an exclusive email interview.

Calling From The Sea their own outlet, the side project is "A place where we can drop songs that people may not hear from us on a normal day," they said. "If we want to try something that's a little different, this is where we can do that."

The two added that having this little activity is important.

"We believe that you need to have those spaces where you can take risks and play without all the pressure involved," they said.

"That's also the beauty of where music is nowadays. We have the means and technology to just be able to put out as much or as little music as we want," the couple added.

This creative outlet led to the debut solo album "If We Never Happened" which dropped in late June. The Lamars describe it as "a collection of some of our personal favorites we have written throughout the years. Most are love songs, and some go even deeper."

They added that some songs were written in the past months or are several years old. In creating the album, the couple said that "there really isn't any formula" in their process.

"Sometimes it starts with an idea or title. Sometimes it starts with a simple melody," they said.

"Once we have the foundation of the song down, then we invite our friends over to our studio and allow them the creative liberty to bring the song to life even more. It's a very collaborative process from beginning to end," Morissette and Dave added.

And although they sing totally different styles of music as individual musicians—Morissette is best known for reaching high notes in diva-like tracks, whereas Dave is an acoustic pop artist—they shared that blending their styles and artistry is not very hard.

"The music we like to listen to is very similar," they said. "So that was one of the ideas behind our duo side project From The Sea, to write and release music in the styles and sounds that had influenced us growing up."

Being in the business as a married couple, the two are learning how to balance working together while also staying professional.

"What is balance? Haha!" they quipped.

"To be very honest, we are only two years into our marriage, so there are still so many things we are trying to figure out as we go," they said. "We love working together but it also presents its own challenges as we both have our own perspective on how we feel things should go."

At the end of the day, Morissette and Dave will choose what they feel will be best for the music.

"We are just very blessed that we have this opportunity to do life and music together," they added.

The husband and wife duo have their hearts full following their first concert.

Titled Feels Like Home, the show was held on July 7 at the Music Museum. It also served as the launch of "If We Never Happened."

The two co-produced the show with Underdog Music, a music label founded by Miguel Jimenez, who also serves as the CEO.

Aside from From The Sea, Underdog Music also manages Lucas Miguel, Martti Franca, P-Pop girl group Daydream, and Kayla Rivera, among many other rising artists.
