Weezer apologizes for cancelled Manila show, covers Aegis's 'Halik'

Weezer apologized for their cancelled concert in Manila with a special treat for their Filipino fans—a cover of Aegis's top hit "Halik" on vocalist Rivers Cuomo's YouTube channel.

The American rock 'n roll band stayed true to the original's loud rock angst. Rivers also proved that he's got impressive Tagalog singing skills—he even tried his hand at the song's signature birit.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Weezer said that they really wanted to perform the song for Filipinos at the PLUS63 Festival, but it ended up getting postponed indefinitely. It was supposed to be the band's first concert in the Philippines.

"Manila, we're so sorry Plus63 Festival was cancelled. We tried our best to find a place to do a headline show for you, but unfortunately it didn't end up working out," they said.

"We were so excited to play this cover for you too," Weezer added. "Hopefully we can find our way back to Manila soon!"

Filipino fans loved the cover and are hoping for Weezer to visit the country soon.

PLUS63 Festival Manila was scheduled for October 14 at the SMDC Festival Grounds in Paranaque City.

Organizers of the Cebu-based festival said that although they were looking forward to debuting in Manila, plans "have not developed as we had originally envisioned and we are unable to deliver the PLUS63 experience that our community has been accustomed to."

They added that the production and on-site experience would not meet their standards.

"As a result, we are indefinitely postponing PLUS63 Festival Manila until we can properly and safely execute the PLUS63 experience from start to finish," they said.

The team apologized for the inconvenience and said they are working harder to exceed expectations. Ticketholders may refund their tickets or keep these for the rescheduled festival.

Aside from Weezer, the lineup also included Russ, Amine, mxmtoon, Lola Amour, and PLAYERTWO.

PLUS63 also brought Joji, Kehlani, Paul Pablo, The Sundown, Sansette, and DJ Short to Cebu for their 2022 edition.

Weezer are the hitmakers behind the rock 'n roll classics "Say It Ain't So," "Buddy Holly," "Beverly Hills," and "Undone – The Sweater Song," among many others.
