Khalil Ramos and Gabbi Garcia recreate 'Rent' creator's photo in New York

Khalil Ramos and Gabbi Garcia paid a special tribute to Jonathan Larson, the late creator of “Rent,” who also inspired the play “Tick, Tick… Boom!”

The Kapuso couple recreated a photo of Jonathan and his longtime friend and producer Victoria Leacock during their trip to New York.

The photos were taken outside the New York Theater Workshop, the Off-Broadway theater where “Rent” was first staged. Khalil and Gabbi posed similarly to Jonathan and Victoria, with Gabbi holding the playbill for “Tick, Tick… Boom!”

Khalil captioned his Instagram post, “The workshop.”

This year, Khalil made his theater debut as Jonathan in the Philippine staging of “Tick, Tick… Boom!” He joined theater veterans, wowed audiences with his performance, and said that being onstage “feels surreal.”

Golden Globe and BAFTA nominee, and Cinemalaya Best Supporting Actress Dolly De Leon praised Khalil’s performance.

Khalil, Dolly, and Maris Racal have an upcoming series titled “Simula sa Gitna.”

Meanwhile, Jonathan’s musical, “Rent,” will be staged in the Philippines in 2024.
