'The Legend of Zelda' live action film is in the works

Nintendo is bringing Link and Zelda to life on the big screen!

In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Nintendo video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto said he's been working on a live-action "The Legend of Zelda" movie with producer and former Marvel Studios CEO Avi Arad "for many years now."

"I have asked Avi-san to produce this film with me, and we have now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production," Miyamoto said.

"It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it," he added.

The film will be helmed by "Maze Runner" director Wes Ball and distributed by Sony Pictures.

"The Legend of Zelda" is a video game franchise created by Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka, primarily published by Nintendo. The first game was released in 1986. The latest installations are "Breath of the Wild" and its sequel "Tears of the Kingdom."

The games generally follow Link and Princess Zelda as they fight to save the kingdom of Hyrule.
