'The Last of Us' Season 2 set for 2025 release

It will be quite a wait for the next season of "The Last of Us."

HBO on Thursday announced that the hit post-apocalyptic drama will return in 2025.

Other HBO shows set for release in 2025 are "Euphoria" Season 3, "Welcome to Derry," "The White Lotus" Season 3, "And Just Like That" Season 3.

"The Last of Us" is based on the 2013 action-adventure Playstation game that features Joel, a smuggler escorting teenage girl Ellie. Together they fight hostile cannibalistic creatures.

After a successful first season, a followup was reportedly ordered by HBO as early as January this year.

It stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie. —JCB, GMA Integrated News
