PAWS offers free spay, neuter services for low-income pet owners

Paw parents, heads up!

The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) is offering free spay and neuter services to indigent pet owners every month through its Kapon for All Pets (KfAP) program, in collaboration with partners Vets in Practice and Modern Pet.

KfAP is reserved for pet owners who may be financially constrained to afford low-cost spay and neuter services for their pets. The program is open to residents of Metro Manila, including those who are unemployed, students with limited means, senior citizens on pension, and families relying on government aid, among others.

According to PAWS' Facebook post Sunday, the free spay and neuter services are available at partner clinics' branches in Alabang, Muntinlupa City; Mandaluyong City; Ortigas Center; Pasay City; Pasig City; Quezon City; and Taguig City.

To be eligible, owners must have a pet aspin or puspin aged six months to four years old, as well as an indigency certificate.

Walk-ins cannot be accommodated, so pet owners must register via this link to be screened and given a schedule.

Spaying (for female animals) or neutering (for male animals) involves the surgical removal of an animal's reproductive organ and is crucial to avoid pregnancies, prevent diseases among animals, and control animal population.

Although these are surgical procedures, spay and neuter are routine and relatively safe, according to Pet Lovers Centre veterinarian Dr. Lester Lopez. In fact, veterinarians recommend it.
