J.Rey Soul proud to perform for fellow Pinoys at Black Eyed Peas' Manila concert

J.Rey Soul was brimming with happiness and pride during the Black Eyed Peas' concert party at the SM Mall of Asia on Wednesday.

The singer, who has been touring with the Black Eyed Peas since 2018 following the departure of original singer Fergie, made sure to give Apl.de.Ap a shoutout on stage.

"The moment that changed my life is when this man right here discovered me," she said. "From a small town girl in Laguna to now touring the world with the Black Eyed Peas."

J.Rey was signed to Apl.de.Ap's label, BMBX, in 2014, after meeting him on "The Voice Kids" the year before.

In an interview with GMA Integrated News, J.Rey admitted she feels the pressure.

"So imagine 20 years old ka galing sa Pilipinas, and then you step into a legendary group like that," she said. "It's a lot of pressure... that Filipino spirit was in me, us Filipinos are fighters, we're resilient, and no matter what, we're gonna show up and show out."

She also looked back on her stint on the Kapuso talent show "Pop Star Kids," and said she was able to build family and community there.

"I remember I was performing with Julie Anne San Jose and Rita [Daniela] as well," J.Rey said.

During Black Eyed Peas' time in the Philippines, they paid a visit to Angeles City in Pampanga, the hometown of Apl.de.Ap.

In Apl.de.Ap's home, they were served homecooked chicken adobo and sinigang by his mother.
