'Food Delivery: Fresh from the West Philippine Sea,' 'Magellan,' other PH films headed to Hawaii in October

Four Filipino films have been selected for the 44th Annual Hawai'i International Film Festival, including "Food Delivery: Fresh from the West Philippine Sea."

Aside from the Baby Ruth Villarama-directed documentary, the Spotlight On The Philippines, a showcase featuring new Filipino films, will also screen "Eraserheads: Combo on The Run," "Quezon," and "Magellan."

The screenings will be held at Consolidated Theatres Kapolei 3 in Honolulu, Hawaii from October 18 to 30.

Meanwhile, "Eraserheads: Combo on The Run" has also been nominated for Best International Film Documentary at the International Sound & Film Music Festival, set for October 6 in Croatia.

Here is more information about the films and documentaries:

"Food Delivery: Fresh from the West Philippine Sea" shows the story of fishermen Arnel Satam and Ozman Pumicpic, whose families and livelihood depend on the bounty of the sea but are barred by Chinese vessels from entering the contested waters of Scarborough Shoal.

It premiered in Manila in July and had its world premiere at the Doc Edge Festival in New Zealand in June, where it won the Best Festival Category Tides of Change Award.

"Eraserheads: Combo on The Run" is a documentary film about the legendary Filipino band composed of Ely Buendia, Raimund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala, and Marcus Adoro. They are the OPM band behind songs "Ang Huling El Bimbo," "With A Smile," and "Ligaya," among others.

Directed by Lav Diaz, "Magellan" is the Philippines' official entry to the 98th Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars 2026, competing in the Best International Feature Film Category.

The film received a five-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.

"Quezon" is the third installment of TBA Studios' "Bayaniverse," which is preceded by "Heneral Luna" (2015) and "Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral" (2018).

The film follows the political life of Manuel L. Quezon, the President of the Commonwealth of the Philippines from 1935 to 1944, portrayed by Jericho Rosales.
