BGYO’s first major solo concert: 5 Key takeaways

BGYO finally held their first major solo concert last Saturday four years after their debut.

Fans, known as ACEs, flocked to the New Frontier Theater in Cubao, Quezon City to celebrate the group’s music and achievements.

Titled "BGYO Now," the show was a full display of the group’s musicality and dance skills, and a chance for them to give back the love and support they've received from their fans since their launch.

Here are some key takeaways from the concert:

1. They can perform non-stop

Most concerts feature guest performers to give the main act some time to rest or change outfits. But for BGYO, the entire production was theirs, and at least one member was on stage from start to finish.

It was a display of their endurance and energy. From powerful dance tracks like “Gigil,” “Divine,” and “Trash,” to the final set including a medley of Sarah Geronimo’s “Tala” and “Kilometro,” which was one of their early performances, and probably their biggest hit “Tumitigil ang Mundo,” the group did not miss a beat.

2. Each member can shine individually

These boys don’t just perform as a group. They can also do it on their own.

JL Toreliza and Akira Morishita showcased their vocal prowess with covers of Earl Agustin and Nick Jonas, respectively. Meanwhile, Gelo Rivera, Mikki Claver, and Nate Porcalla impressed the crowd with their dance skills paired with strong vocals.

3. The Headlines EP is a complete package

BGYO recently dropped their latest EP, Headlines, and performed all four tracks in the concert -- “All These Ladies,” “Aloevera,” “Dance With Me,” and “Headlines” -- in one seamless set.

The songs reflect a more mature sound compared to their earlier releases, signaling their growth as artists.

The EP made waves on iTunes, charting in the Philippines, UAE, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

4. They love their ACEs sincerely

Throughout the night, BGYO repeatedly expressed gratitude to their fans for sticking by them.

As proof, one moment came during “All These Ladies”, when five female fans were brought on stage and were serenaded. Photos of other ladies in the venue were also shown on-screen during the performance, making it even more personal.

After their final song, the boys went up to the Balcony and Loge areas of the theater to personally thank and interact with fans.

5. For BGYO, they’ve already won

As the show ended, leader Gelo declared: “We won.” It’s been a long journey for the group, but the concert served as proof that they’ve made it.

Despite the struggles and challenges, BGYO remains an icon in the P-pop scene< with their loyal ACEs right by their side. And from what happened during the concert, this is just the beginning. — LA, GMA Integrated News
