Pinay fan meets Conan O'Brien in unforgettable chance encounter in Taguig
Conan O'Brien has been in Manila since Monday and fans have been on the prowl to meet him.
One lucky fan was able to do just that on Tuesday. Charisse Vilchez met Conan O’ Brien on October 14, at a hotel coffee shop in Bonifacio Global City before work in the morning.
"Since my office is already in the Fort, I messaged a friend who also works nearby and is a huge fan," she told GMA News Online on email.
"If we see him, great! If not, it should be ok. We figured we had nothing to lose since we were already in the area," she said.
And so they went to grab their morning coffee. She admits she wasn't really sure if he was staying at the hotel. But as they were waiting for their coffee, she saw a foreign camera crew with equipment in the lobby. "My hunch was confirmed," Charisse said, adding by then, "I knew he must be on his way down."
They didn't have to wait long. According to the PR executive, Conan was "hard to miss because he’s so tall!”
"From afar, I waved and he actually smiled and waved back," Char excitedly narrated. Then "I just went for it and asked him, 'Can we have a photo with you?'"
According to Char, Conan was "kind enough to say yes." She took a photo of the American TV host with her friend, and the friend took one of her with Conan.
"I was so nervous that I was babbling. I honestly don’t remember most of what I said,” she recalled.
Charisse is a huge fan of the comedian, and says she definitely told Conan about how his iconic shows became her bonding moment with her brother.
“I was trying to tell him how much my brother and I bonded over his show and how we loved the Mac and Me clip he always played with Paul Rudd. But in my nervousness, I accidentally said ‘Mac & Cheese.’ He corrected me, and we both had a good laugh about it,” Charisse said.
She asked if Conan could record a short video greeting for her brother who is a much bigger fan than her, and the Emmy-award winning host happily obliged with an improvised and funny video greeting for her brother.
“The video felt like an early Christmas gift to my brother. It was a personal greeting for him from one of the people he admires,” she said.
According to Charisse, Conan is the bond that she and his brother shared as they have been watching his shows together since they were in high school.
“Even if my brother and I are now in our 40s, we still send each other Conan clips and videos because we still find him hilarious,” she said.
“It's our shared language,” Charisse added.
Conan made a splash on Monday after he posted on social media that he was is in town to shoot his travel show "Conan O'Brien Must Go." In his post, he shared snaps of himself posing for selfies with fans in Bonifacio Global City.
On social media Tuesday, Conan posted a snap with another fan who had his childhood photo as her lock screen.
"In the Philippines, it comes with your phone," he captioned the post.
Conan is best known for hosting the late-night talk shows “Late Night with Conan O'Brien,” and “The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien.”
He has a travel show on HBO Max, "Conan O'Brien Must Go,” which is on its second season. It is a spin-off of his podcast "Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend.”
The TV series began airing in 2024.
The comedian and late-night host previously took the stage as the host of the 2025 Oscars. Now, he’s set to return once again as a host for the 2026 Oscars.
