'The Conjuring' prequel movie in the works
A new “Conjuring” film is now in development.
According to a report by Variety, the new project, which is structured as a prequel, is being developed by Warner Bros. and New Line.
The expansion of the horror universe comes despite the most recent entry, “The Conjuring: Last Rites,” having been billed as the final installment in the paranormal series.
The film became an outsized box office hit, earning a franchise-best $487 million globally.
The upcoming chapter is expected to go back to the beginning of the story and focus on the early years of the famous paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren.
It is unclear if series mainstays Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson will return, the report added, or if new actors will take over the helm of the “Conjuring” universe.
Short film director Rodrigue Huart is in talks to direct the prequel, and Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg are on board to pen the screenplay.
The first "The Conjuring" movie was released in 2013. The third installment, "The Devil Made Me Do It," premiered in 2021. —Carby Rose Basina/JCB, GMA Integrated News
