“I have to leave the competition and return to the Philippines because of another obligation in my home country,” Pacquiao said.

“I also want to apologize to my team,” he added. “As a team captain, I was really proud to have the opportunity to represent the Philippines."

Justin Hernandez took over as Team Philippines’ captain. He is the first and only Filipino male athlete to compete in the CrossFit Games.

Earlier, Pacquiao made headlines after contestants from different Asian countries were starstruck as he made his entrance with Team Philippines.

From Episode 6 onwards, Team Philippines will consist of captain Hernandez, Fil-Am national team sambo athlete Mark “Mugen” Striegl, strongman Ray Jefferson Querubin, national rugby team player Justin Coveney, national hurdler Robyn Lauren Brown, and CrossFit athlete Lara Liwanag.
