'The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring' returns to PH cinemas for 25th anniversary
In celebration of the 25th anniversary of “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring,” the fantasy epic is returning to select Philippine cinemas.
SM Cinema announced on Instagram that the extended edition of “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” will be exclusively screened from January 23 to 25.
“Experience the extended journey, the unforgettable characters, and the epic that shaped a generation of fantasy fans,” the movie house wrote.
Directed by Peter Jackson, "The Fellowship of the Ring" was initially released in 2001 and stars Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, Orlando Bloom, Cate Blanchett, and Liv Tyler. The story is based on books written by J.R.R. Tolkien and follows Frodo Baggins, a young hobbit who goes on a journey across Middle-earth to destroy the One Ring to stop the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron.
The film is the first installment of "The Lord of the Rings trilogy," followed by "The Two Towers" (2002) and "The Return of the King" (2003). The trilogy is one of the most successful franchises in cinema history, earning numerous awards and and a place in pop culture.
