As 'Bebot' trends worldwide, Black Eyed Peas recalls Pinoy significance of 2005 song

“Pinoy ka, sigaw na, sige.”

TikTok remains the gift that keeps on giving, reminding old and new generations of songs that are part of our culture.

Since the start of 2026, some OPM songs have resurfaced on the social media app, including “Ale” by The Bloomfields through a dance craze, and “Bebot” by Black Eyed Peas for makeup transformation videos.

Filipino content creators began recreating makeup looks reminiscent of early 2000s beauty trends: thin eyebrows, black eyeliner, and glossy lips.

The trend has since spread beyond the Philippines to other parts of the world, with international beauty creators hopping on the makeup transformation inspired by a “bebot,” a Filipino slang term for a pretty woman.

Amid the sudden craze, the original members of Black Eyed Peas looked back on the significance of “Bebot,” which they released in 2005.

“Filipinos should have their anthem as well,” will.i.am said in a recently uploaded video on TikTok.

“When we say Filipino, we’re not saying it from a foreigner perspective, we’re saying it [because] we started our group in the Filipino community in Los Angeles,” he added.

Taboo then commended apl.de.ap for being an ambassador of the Philippines in pop culture through the song.

“We could tour around the world, and when Apl performs his song ‘Bebot,’ people who are not even Filipino, they don’t even speak tagalog are saying Filipino,” he said.

Meanwhile, apl.de.ap recalled his experience at the Grammys, where Queen Latifah told him that her favorite song is “Bebot.”

The Black Eyed Peas last performed in the Philippines in August 2025. They are famous for the hit songs “I Gotta Feeling,” “Pump It,” and “Where Is the Love?”
